Rule of Law (7)

As a second postscript to my rule of law posts last week, I want to note Barack Obama’s philosophy of law.  I find it in his early years’ memoir, “Dreams from My Father”.

“The law is also memory; the law also records a long-running conversation, a nation arguing with its conscience.” [2008 p437]

For me, this reflection enshrines the idea that a common law legal system hosts, however imperfectly, the wisdom of the people in the jurisdiction of that legal system.
