Back home … to snow

I have returned safely from a memorable first visit to Central America.

In temperatures of around 30C, I have walked in sandals down to the shore of the Pacific Ocean, and around the rim of a volcano, and across the site of an ancient Mayan settlement.

But most of all, I have enjoyed the company and generous hospitality of my family there.

The somewhat depressing feature of the visit was meeting young people of ability (admittedly a small sample) who were only able to find appropriate work outside their own country, or with foreign firms in their own country.  I found that the prospects for economic development in their country were judged to be limited.

Back home in the UK, it is snowing today …
