Date and cinnamon coffee cake

I have just made this recipe for the first time, and the cake has come out very well.  The instructions that I used were as follows.

Line a 24 cm (8 in) round cake tin.

300 g self-raising flour
1t cinnamon
pinch of nutmeg
1 t baking powder

Weigh out these dry ingredients.

250 g dates, chopped into small sections
2 T instant coffee
125 mL of boiling water

Dissolve the coffee in the boiling water, add to the dates, and stir well.  The dates should not be soaked for too long … I do not soak the dates for more than about twenty minutes.

2 large eggs
175 g of dark brown soft sugar
175 g of butter, melted in a saucepan
2 T milk

In a mixing bowl, (electric) whisk the eggs, gradually adding the sugar.  Continue to whisk as the cooled melted butter is slowly added.  Sieve the dry ingredients (in batches) into the bowl and fold in with a large spoon.  Add the chopped dates (with the strong coffee) and the milk, and mix together carefully.

Transfer the batter to the lined cake tin, level the contents, and bake (with a cover over) in the middle of a pre-heated oven GM 4 [180C, 350F] for 90 minutes.  Cool for at least ten minutes, and then turn out on to a rack.  Enjoy …….
