Quotation

“The theatre is the common channel through which the light of wisdom streams down”

[in ‘Theatre Considered as a Moral Institution’ (1784) by Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805)]

I appreciate this quote because it hints at the possibility of a close relationship between religion and theatre.  The approach to both involves faith and trust in the sense of a ‘willing suspension of disbelief’.  The rituals in both aspire to communicate sight and insight at the same time.  And, historically, I read that the origins of both institutions are bound up together.
